NFS [not for sale]•SERIES
Tittle'D' : NFS [ not for sale]
This is an acronym to represent the artistic expression and intentions of this photograph series. As a black creative and garment maker the constant battle within the material culture of ownership; can stifle the creative flow. This series is intended to spark dialogue through construction and narrative. The garments, the bodies depicted is not for anyone's possession but to admire. To extend that accessibility for admiration I wanted to share through the fine art of photography.
ALL PRINTS ARE LAMINATED ON 1/8 INCH ACRYLIC
ARTIST STATEMENT :
THE SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT AND PRECEDENCE OVER BLACK BODIES AND BLACK CULTURE HAS BECOME AN UNFORTUNATE TRADITIONAL QUALITY OF TODAY'S CAPITALIST SOCIETY. WITH THE USE OF FOUND IMAGES OF A BLACK FEMALES LIPS AND TONGUE, RZA’S GRILLS, NAOMI CAMPBELL’S LEGS, AND MUCH MORE. A COMPILATION OF IMAGES FORM A REPEATED PATTERN AND MONOCHROME OF BROWN TONES. MAJORITY OF BLACK BODIES AND BLACK CULTURE REFERENCES HAVE BEEN WIDELY USED IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY AND MANY OTHERS AS CAPITAL GAIN AND EXPLOITATION. WITH THIS EXPLOITATION LEAVES NO BOUNDARIES AS TO WHAT CAN BE USED, OR SOLD TO PAINT AN IDEA. THAT SO OFTEN EXCLUDE ACCESS TO BLACK PEOPLE TO ONE CONTROL THAT NARRATIVE OR BE APART OF THAT PAINTED IDEA. WHICH LEADS TO THE CONCEPTUAL NAME ‘NOT FOR SALE’; EVEN THOUGH THERE IS OPEN ACCESS TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THESE PIECES AND PARTS OF THIS INSTALLATION. EVERY PART OF THIS INSTALLATION. EVERY ASPECT HOLDS NO BOUNDS TO THE POSSESSION OF ANYONE.
